Abstract
In this article, the author examines the concept and types of international sanctions. Based on thepresented definitions from different dictionaries, the following criteria for sanctions we identify: 1) as arule the source of sanctions is a higher (authority) authority; 2) the presence of an offense; 3) adverseconsequences; 4) within the framework of international law — a measure of influence. The author concludesthat in the modern period the concept of “sanctions” has become widespread among scientists in variousfields of science. At the same time, when it comes to the actions of one state, we understand sanctions asunilateral restrictive measures that entail adverse consequences, and not as measures of responsibility.Personalization and targeting of international sanctions leads to easy legalization of the latter, which, however, is unlikely to be complete in the absence of political will. At the same time, there is a variety oftypes of international sanctions.
